My mother would tell us tales
of the Chupacabra where he would
steal young daughters that wouldn’t listen
to their mothers. That he would take beautiful
girls and marry them.
When my sister was 15, she ran away from home.
After the third day we all assumed the Chupacabra stole
her away. That her teeth became fangs.
Her green eyes black as onyx.
That her wedding was under the eternal moon
and none of us were invited.
